Fair Trade – what is that? Ask the question and you’re bound
to get an answer. That is what Nick Savaidis did. While
working as a secondary teacher, he watched his students kicking
all manner of balls around the playground. This caused him to ask
the question – who made those balls?
Were they kids like his students? Not likely! The ones who made
those balls were possibly part of the estimated 280 million child
workers being paid a pitiful wage in the belief they are the lucky
Of course, you ask one question and it inevitably leads you to
another. What about their brightly coloured sneakers? What sort
of history do they have? Was the rubber used from plantations
that relied upon toxic pesticides in their production?
